What Causes Neck Pain?
There are numerous causes for neck pain. It can happen because of muscle strain, which is common in those who spend too much time hunched over books, computers, and smartphones. It can also happen because of nerve compression, which is when either bone spurs or herniated disks press upon on the nerves branching out from the spinal cord, while other potential causes include but are not limited to whiplash, osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis. Combined, these causes make neck pain a common complaint, which is why people should familiarize themselves with ways to induce neck pain relief.
How Can You Get Neck Pain Relief?
Here are 3 examples:
Exercise
Neck stretches can prevent stiffness by increasing the neck’s range of motion, while neck exercises can strengthen the muscles needed to maintain proper posture. One simple but nonetheless useful example of a neck exercise that can be performed whenever and wherever is the chin tuck that strengthens the upper thoracic extensors while stretching the scalene and suboccipital muscles at the same time. The standing version should see the person standing straight with the shoulders back before bringing their chin towards their chest to stare at the floor before raising their head to stare at the ceiling. In contrast, the sitting version should see the person sitting up straight and looking straight ahead with plenty of back support before moving their chin back so that their ears fall into approximate alignment with their shoulders. Please note that both exercises should be performed with slow, smooth movements, which should provide maximum benefit while minimizing risks.
Posture
Maintaining proper posture is important for preventing neck pain, particularly when someone spends hours and hours seated instead of standing up. When standing up, a person should stand up straight with their shoulders back. Their head should be aligned with the rest of their body while their abdomen should be pulled in and their feet should be situated at shoulder-width. Likewise, when someone is sitting down, they should make sure that their eyes are pointed at the top third of the screen that they are looking up while both their feet and their thighs should be parallel with the floor. People who are expected to perform repetitive tasks of some sort should strive to be as symmetrical as possible instead of just using one side of their body all of the time, which should serve to relieve the stress placed upon them.
Chiropractic Care
Of course, people who are suffering from neck pain relief can also benefit by seeing a chiropractor who can provide them with hands-on treatment for their problem as well as useful advice in the future. However, they should make sure to see a skilled and experienced chiropractor such as Dr. Tompkins at Tompkins Family Chiropractic, who can claim a proven record of success in pleasing previous patients. After all, people deserve good results, meaning that they should seek out people who have proven to be able to provide them with what they want.
