Children with autism were recorded to have been benefited by chiropractic care. During the study, most patients were tested to have suffered from subluxation in the upper cervical spine.
Another study from the Journal of Vertebral Subluxation or JVSR also published within the same month and year studied children with autism and how they responded to chiropractic care. One group had undergone spinal adjustment on the upper spine while another was subjected to spinal correction for the entire spine.
Under this study, patients were diagnosed at the Child Evaluation Center of the University of Louisville Medical School. Each child’s progress was evaluated using the Autism Treatment Evaluation Checklist or ATEC which was developed by the Autism Research Institute of San Diego, CA.
Chiropractic care was administered to all children involved in the study. This was performed twice a week for three months. All kids showed significant improvements in terms of communication, interaction, language skills, mood, and motor skills.
