Learn From Marana Chiropractic, Dr. Emil Tompkins how sleep can help you to be pain free.
Rest, in most chronic pain studies, people in chronic pain also have a sleep disturbance. This leads us to realize that sleep, or lack of sleep will lead to pain. We must get a handle on proper sleep patterns if we are to make sure that we have a life feeling as good as we can possibly feel. There are 4 stages of sleep. Check out what happens during stages 3 and 4
Stages 3 and 4
* Deepest and most restorative sleep
* Blood pressure drops
* Breathing becomes slower
* Muscles are relaxed
* Blood supply to muscles increases
* Tissue growth and repair occurs
* Energy is restored
Hormones are released, like Growth hormone, essential for growth and development, including muscle development
Your body needs sleep to heal and repair tissues, if you don’t get enough, your body can’t do what it needs to do to repair, so you will continue to have more pain than you should, if you don’t get enough sleep. So, for some of us, there’s a major issue keeping us from sleeping, for most of us, we just need to turn off the TV. Make sure our activities wind down at a decent hour, and get to bed early. Your body will thank you for it.
It’s pretty clear that your body will not heal of you don’t sleep. So make sure to get more sleep starting today.
SLEEP POSITIONS
When you’re sleeping, try to keep a very neutral postere. Sleep, on your side with a decent sized pillow between the knees to keep the pelvis stable. If you can have one knee forward with a pillow underneath that knee.
