Need help sleeping? Try this technique.
Today we’re going to talk about sleep, because if you need help sleeping, you’ll try anything to improve it. But many of us are actually the cause of the problem ourselves. There’s a lot of research that’s out right now that shows that light waves have a powerful impact on how we sleep.
In fact, light is one of the most powerful cues for our sleep, and our body’s circadian rhythms, its 24-hour clock
that tells us what is day and night when we should be asleep and when we should be awake.
But instead of fixing it, we now own more a light-emitting devices like our cell phones, our TVs, electronics that surround us. All those emit some kind of light.
You’ll even have little things that might be turned off, but some blue light is coming out of it. Unfortunately blue light is one of the worst forms of light when it comes to having a negative impact on our sleep.
Here are some simple solutions you can take:
1. If you can remove light-emitting devices when it’s bedtime or maybe before bedtime, that can make a really big difference. You don’t want that light affecting you in the evening, so turn off the TV well before bed.
2. Don’t have a TV in the bed. That can make a difference. Look at the things around you that emit light and eliminate the things that are going to create a problem for you.
3. If you have an iPhone, there’s actually a trick inside the iPhone that will keep it from keeping you awake.
Traditionally, iPhones emit that blue light like most other electronic devices, but there is a new program called “Night shift,”. When you enable that, it will change the kind of light that’s being emitted from your phone as you start hitting the evening hours. This can have a direct impact on how you sleep.
