From Dr. Emil Tompkins a family Chiropractor in Tucson Arizona with a passion for family health and wellness.
So you want to lose weight and not just a little bit, but a LOT. You talk to the people around you who give you different pieces of advice, go vegan, high carb, low carb, ketogenic, paleo, run marathons….. The lists can go on and on and on.
But what you may want to try is listen to the people who have actually lost LOTS of weight. Nothing like advice from the people who really achieved the goals you’re after.
1. Sarah, Lost 63 lbs
“Woke up late [and was] only able to fit in a 25-minute hit, but you know what? I’m glad I got my butt out of bed and did something! In this journey you will find that it’s the little things that add up.” – Sarah @sarah_fitafter5
This stay at home mom didn’t let her 5 kids keep her from doing some exercise. Even if it’s just a few minutes, consistency is the key in helping you to continue on a positive path to a healthy weight.
2. David Garcia, 160lbs
“I’ve figured out how to combat my biggest weakness: my attitude. Every prior diet derailed after making poor food choices, because I would think, ‘There goes my diet today, so I should eat whatever I want, and get back on track tomorrow.’ And then I’d stretch ‘tomorrow’ to ‘next week’ to ‘next month’ to ‘next year.’ So now I eliminate temptation wherever I can. I keep lots of healthy options at home, so I never feel stuck eating the same thing.” – David Garcia, @keepitupdavid
This is a great tip. Keep your mind in control. And make sure that you have healthy things nearby and are prepared to keep you on track.
3. Julie Ana Kim, 72lbs
“I recently checked the scale to see if I had lost any weight and saw I was only down 2 lbs. I was a little disappointed because I have been working out extra hard. But yesterday, 2 of my coworkers commented they noticed I’ve been slimming down. It just made me realize I definitely shouldn’t rely on the scale to measure my progress. […] Pictures, measurements, clothing all show progress as well. Don’t feel down just because of what the scale says.” – Julie Ana Kim @julieanakim
Weight loss doesn’t happen quickly and it’s never easy. So allowing the scale to determine your happiness is a recipe for disaster. If you changed your body mass from high fat, to high muscle, you’ll actually weight a little more, but you’ll look and feel a LOT better.
4. Megan, 114lbs
“Before marriage and kids [vs.] after. It’s funny how back in the day we thought we didn’t have time to exercise and eat healthy because we were so busy with our full-time jobs. Most of our dinners consisted of picking something up from a restaurant because we were too busy to cook. Now, 2 kids later, we just know we have to make our health a priority.” – Megan @skinnymeg31
There’s always something that can get in the way of you losing weight and achieving your health goals. But there’s one thing that is certain. Make your health a priority. Make a choice to take charge of your health and healing and watch your life and weight change for the better.
5. Jessica Ann, 115lbs
“Don’t be overwhelmed by ‘how long it will take’ or ‘how far you have to go.’ Focus on today, on this moment. Make the best choices that you can—start where you are, with what you have.” – Jessica Ann, @join_jessica_xo.
You never reach your goals until you take the first step. Before you’re overwhelmed by the length of time it will take, or the amount of weight you need to lose. Take this one single step at a time. Realize that right now is the only thing you have control of. So, take control of now.
