Chiropractic is concerned with the preservation and restoration of health, giving special attention on spinal adjustments. It is safe, effective, natural, holistic and may be a helpful boost for your child’s healthy growth and development. If you’re concerned about your child’s health, you’ll want to master the 3T’s.
Your child’s health is determined by an abundance of influences: genetics, mom’s prenatal health, childbirth itself, environment and even the behavior and attitude of other people around him. All these are capacities that relate with each other, intertwined in an inextricable mass to shape and affect your child’s growth, development and well-being.
In chiropractic, we narrow down these influences into 3 categories. We call them the 3 Ts: Trauma, Toxins, and Thoughts – influences that control and affect your child’s health.

Trauma
There are many physical activities that put trauma to the joints, bones and muscles of children.
The differing fetal positions in utero, some of which cause problematic and prolonged labor is the earliest problem a child’s growing spine faces. The physical strain that a baby bears during childbirth, all those stretching and pulling and that curious event when the bones on the baby’s head overlap in order to fit in through the mother’s narrow birth canal — all of them are significant challenges to the growing vertebrae. That’s not all.
Trauma refers to all the physical activities that happen to and performed by the child’s young body. Taking into consideration that his development involves a lot of learning: learning to hold his head up, learning to crawl, learning to run, learning to touch and understand every little thing that piques his curiosity – he is particularly prone to accidents that cause trauma to the spine.
A child’s body, just like the rest of our bodies have an amazingly natural way of healing itself. However, unless something is done to any injury, his body can only attempt to stabilize and protect itself from further injury through a crude way of muscle splinting. The injury may indeed heal. But we need to do something to return the affected body part to its original quality.
That is why a chiropractic adjustment, even in young children, is necessary.
Toxins
Toxins enter a child’s body constantly through the air we all breathe. We are not only talking about the air pollution they may absorb while outside, we are talking basically about everything that their bodies filter in and out. It could be cigarette smoke from someone’s cigarette, cleaning agents which mom and dad use to disinfect the house, paint, adhesives, mom’s perfume, and even that toilet that we always leave with its lid up.
Toxins can also come from the foods the child eats, especially that ones they may be allergic to. Toxins from foods whose genetic make-up has been engineered in the lab – (yes, we’re talking GMO’s), processed foods and all junk food. These are toxic to children, even if their bodies have a natural way of filtering toxins in and out.
The key to promoting good child health is to give only non-toxic, natural food.
Thoughts
The third T, thoughts refers to your child’s psychological health. It is brought about by a complex process. When I talk about thoughts I mean stress. When you’re under stress, your body goes through lots of different chemical and physiological reactions that can have a negative effect on your health and a negative effect on your spine.
A child’s level of stress can be determined by how well they progress through normal psychological development. Some of the things that influence a child’s level of stress include:
- Separation from significant others
- The amount of TV time
- Relationships
- The freedom to ask questions
- The attitude and behavior of people around him
Influences that encompass the third T are complicated. Even so, it is best that we understand the child’s emotional and mental needs in order to encourage healthy growth, development and well-being.
