Dr. Emil Tompkins wants to share with you our Healing Pain Through Movement Program. Movement is vitally important, and sometimes we think that because we’re busy, because we work really hard, that movement is enough to keep us healthy, and relieve pain. Unfortunately, sometimes those movements are movements that create problems for us. We definitely don’t want to create any issues, that would be a problem. So, we have come up with a program that’s going to allow you to heal your pain. There’s four very specific types of exercises that are going to make a difference overall for your body, to make sure that you’re living pain free and that functionally your body is doing well each and everyday.
There are four ideas that we want to make sure that we’re doing when we are working on our movements, our resistance and our strength training.
Pushing Exercises
The first step is pushing types of exercises. Exercises where you’re pushing away from you creates the most extension in the muscles, extension in the body.
Pulling Exercises
The next one is pulling, that creates flexion. So, you want to be pulling, grabbing something and pulling it towards you, sometimes people do pull ups, or curls, or those types of activities.
Squatting Exercise
Squatting, just simple squatting where you’re standing and bending at the knees, and creating the squat position. An effective, wonderful lower body exercise and there’s lots of variations of that squat that will help you.
Core Exercises
Core work is basically anything from about the chest to the knees, and working those body parts to help support, stabilize your core, stabilize your spine, stabilize the part of the body that’s stabilizing all of you.
If we’re having pain, we generally have very weak stabilizers, and we have to do something about that. Those are the steps. We want to make sure we’re pushing, pulling, squatting, and doing some core work. You do those, and your muscles will function really well.
