As I’m watching the Olympics, I’m completely amazed by the athletes that compete. Let’s just take the sprinters for example. When you look at the female sprinters they have such large muscles and impressive physiques that it’s nowonder they are so fast when they run. It would seem that if you weren’t incredibly muscular, you wouldn’t really have a chance.
Well, Allyson Felix proved me very wrong this week. Known as “chicken legs” to the people around her, she was the skinny kid in school. The one who I’m sure you can recall during your school days, couldnt hurt a fly because she was so thin. I can think of the names now: string bean, skeleton, stick person, oh yes and chicken legs, Hmm, I think im having some not so fond memories of my school days as I’m writing this.
Well, Ms. Felix showed us that those names wouldnt keep her down. She wowed the world by running right by all those muscle-bound ladies like a gazelle. Allyson, “the twig” Felix could have grown up thinking that all of those names were what defined her and never reached her full potential. But no she didn’t, Felix ran all the way to gold in the 200 meters, showing that she was one of the fastest women of all time.
What did people call you as a kid? What do they call you now? And is it really even important? Do we let other people’s opinions of us determine our choices in life. I don’t believe Allyson Felix did and if you want to achieve your goals in health and in life, you shouldn’t either.
You have been created to do great things. Go out there and achieve them.
