Health tips from Marana Chiropractor, Dr. Emil Tompkins about relieving pain with a change in your mindset.
Did you know, that you are 80% more likely to have back pain if you hate your job? At first, you may think this sounds silly, simple but your mind has a great role in what you’re feeling.
Our mindset can cause increased pain. Which means, in order to relieve our pain. we have to take control of our mind. Understand how our mind perceives pain. and use our minds to lessen the pain we’re feeling.
There have been studies to see how people respond when working on an activity then a painful stimulus hits. For some people, when the pain arrives, it prevents them from doing an activity. However, for others when the pain arrived, they continued the activity to distract them from the pain. For this population, they performed significantly better in daily tasks when they were in pain. They also reported less pain even through everyone had the same stimulus.
So my question for you is… Which person are you going to choose to be. If you believe pain is going to limit you, then not only will you perform worse in day-to-day tasks, but you will feel more pain.
Or…….Will you choose to be the person that comes up with constructuve activities, that will help to relieve the pain and also allow you to have a greater enjoyment of life. You get to choose.
Starting today, think about the activities you love to do, think about the exercises I recommended for you when you began care in our office. Find ways to take your mind off the pain.
