As a chiropractor, I’m often asked. What is the best exercise program for me to start? Most people want to do the “right” thing so they search for the exercise program that is without a doubt, the best. One thing we noticed over the years is that there is no one great exercise program. But here are some tips to finding the best program for you.
Tip 1: Don’t imitate: If I were choosing an exercise program, we would swim for about 1 mile, bike for about 20 and run for about 5 miles. That’s fun for me but probably pretty crazy for others. If I were to tell everyone to exercise the way that I do, I would probably turn lots of people off to exercise.
Tip 2: What will you stick with? It’s easy to pick out an exercise that seems fun. But if you have chosen swimming and your pool of choice is closed in the winter, you probably won’t stick with that, at least during that season. Running in the desert at noon in the summertime is also probably something that you will not keep up for too long if you survive. So choose something you can
stick with.
Tip 3: Find a partner. People stick with their exercise routine when they have a partner to work out with.
Tip 4: At a crossroads? Pick another. If you find that your exercise program isn’t working out. Don’t give up, just choose something else. Sometimes finding the perfect exercise plan requires some trial and error.
Whatever you do, don’t give up. Find your favorite activity and it will change your life.
