What Exactly Does “Wellness Chiropractic Care” Mean?
Imagine you’ve decided to go on a diet because you’ve decided that you need to lose 20 lbs. You start changing how you’re eating, you put away the sugar, you stop drinking 3 cokes a day, and it begins to work. You lose 5 lbs, then 10 then you’ve reached your goal, 20lbs!!
The next day you open a can of coke and grab those brownies again and go back to the life you’ve lived that made you overweight sick and unhealthy before.
When you hear this you likely think “that sounds crazy, who would ever do that” But it is, unfortunately, happening all the time.
And it’s probably happening to you with your chiropractic care. You see, there’s some kind of symptom that brought you here. So you come into our office regularly, get adjusted, do your exercises. You’re consistent, and you start to feel better. Eventually, you reach your goal.
But what’s next for you?
Do you return back to the life you’ve always lived or do you take steps to continue to achieve and live out the health you just regained? It’s your choice.
There’s always a certain percentage of people who enter our office only to experience a small amount of pain relief and that’s it. But most people want to see a real increase in their health and well being. They want to take the steps to see real improvement. So they continue with their chiropractic care not on the same schedule as they needed before. But at a reduced schedule to keep the spine and nervous system working really well and not just “maintaining health” but improving health.
Spine or Teeth?
When you go to the dentist, they recommend flossing your teeth, because when you do, you make sure that your teeth are healthy and preserved so that you aren’t dealing with constant cavities, root canals, and drilling.
You’re willing to do that for your teeth, but isn’t your spine MUCH MORE IMPORTANT?
It should be because the number 1 and number 2 killers in America are heart disease and cancer. You don’t feel pain from those until it’s almost too late.
What does that have to do with Chiropractic?
We know that if we wait until the symptom arrives, we are setting ourselves up for poor health forever. And every function of the body is in some way helped by the nervous system. You see, the brain sends messages down the spinal cord to all the nerves that travel to various areas of the body. When that pathway is clear then the body is functioning well.
When there are subtle misalignments in the spine, those nerves can have pressure or irritation and then this will affect multiple areas of the body.
This happens even when you feel no pain at all.
So the best way to ensure that those nerves are functioning at their optimum potential is to have regular chiropractic care. If you keep the nervous system functioning at it’s highest, then over time your health will improve, your pain will decrease and life is just better.
Here is some research on the benefits of regular chiropractic care.
A four study published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics demonstrates that individuals who use chiropractic and other integrative medicine experienced significantly greater wellness than non-users. A review of claims and patient surveys showed that when compared with normative conventional medicine, those who use chiropractic care:
- Saw a decrease of 43% in hospital admissions
- Experienced 58.4% fewer hospital days
- Had 43.2% fewer outpatient surgeries and procedures
- Reduced Pharmaceutical costs by 51.8%
That’s what wellness care is. You’re doing this by getting adjusted beyond the pain you came in for the first time and you’ll see your health improve over time instead of decline that we learn to expect.
